Teenage dream

I have counted three butterflies

since being outside,

they intertwine

like green fronds curling

toward the sun –

flitting in and out of sunshine,

buttercream wings

kissing and leaving

each other, one at a time,

like truth or dare,

like seven minutes in heaven,

like a teenage dream

played out beneath a summertime sky.
