I was watching a blackbird
sunbathe when the dandelion
fairy fell into my lap.
Greedily, I scooped it into
my palm like a child
who desires the moon.
I wished, then wished again,
wondering if my chosen wish
was good enough;
was it worth the flight?
Then, I blew, soft and gentle,
watched the fairy ascend
invisible stairs journeying
up into the sky.
I watched as it skirted
around the tree house
and soared above the tree tops.
The remainder of its flight
I could only imagine
as it soon disappeared from view.
And I imagined it whisked
my wish away
into the dew scented heavens
and found a star to listen;
a star which tomorrow night
will blaze across
the midnight blue
to say: ‘I believe you.’
