Wrinkles in time

Mirrors are more

than ornamental glasses

to be hung and inspected –

dust settling thinly

beside the watermarks –

they are whirling pools

of insight into the past,

present and future –

wrinkles in time,

the happy lines around

my eyes –

and sometimes they can be

found in more places than

homes and the walls

of an antique store,

sometimes they are the eyes

of other people

or the vision of girl at my door,

who is very much the image

of a nine-year-old me,

or the girl swinging gently

on the garden chair, reading

a book, long red-hair:

they are both versions,

mirror images of myself,

at one time or the next.

This is a lovely piece Kristiana!

It gave me a sudden urge to do a month’s worth of writing prompts that are beloved Children’s Book titles: Wrinkle in Time, Where The Wild Things Are, Momma, Do You Love Me, Good Night Moon all immediately came to mind as having great poetic potential
