Missing My Mom

I miss Mom. I miss her skin smelling like Oil of Olay, Vaseline and cigarettes all at once. I miss her telling me “God helps those who help themselves “. I miss her telling me, ” I will always listen to what you have to say” I miss her having a beer in her later years and always offering me one. I miss her waking me up early in the morning during the summer, when I was six years old. I would walk with her to her garden of flowers to watch the wild Daises bloom. I miss watching her favorite soap opera “All My Children” with her.

I miss laughing with her and plucking her Canas out for a nickel a piece. I miss picking chiltepin from her plant to make salsa and pressing the mix button on the blender. And she would tell me I helped her make…
