Looking for I love you

She used to write I love you

on notepaper to burn it in the fire,

like wishing on a star,

she’d surely ignite someone’s desire.

She used to witness I love you

slip out in secret at night,

leaving her alone

to turn out the light.

She used to look for I love you

in flatlining horizons,

scaling the highest heights

for the best view of silence.

She used to call out for I love you

in empty rooms,

searching for the deity

named You.

She used to imagine I love you

dressed in black,

in an open casket,

lying on its back.

I am really, really enjoying how your voice seems to be changing. Evolving. Maybe it’s me, but there seems to be a comfort and confidence that is more evident. Again…maybe just me. Regardless, I love this one.
