To smile with you

In old photographs

hanging above the stairs

your smile

stands out from the rest

leaps from the gloss to take me by the hand,

reminds me to breathe

and smile with you.

In the doorways

and arches of home

your laugh

sings throaty and bold

stretches to every corner

to pull me in close,

reminds me to breathe

and laugh with you.

In the garden

bursting with blossom

your voice

appears to work magic

hums a sweet melody

to envelope me,

reminds me to breathe

and hum along with you.

And each time

I see you

I smile and I breathe,

a thank you.
